The NCEPOD Treat as One A National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Deaths (NCEPOD) Report highlighted: • Only 72% of patients had their mental health drugs prescribed during the initial assessment. • Discharge notification lacked the mental health medication in 29% of patients. • Clozapine, most commonly used in treatment resistant schizophrenia, is considered a critical medicine. Clozapine requires careful initiation, must be re-titrated if doses omitted for more than 48 hours and has several serious adverse effects which must be monitored. Mental Health In-Reach has been operating for two years ‘Bridging the gap between mental and physical healthcare in general hospitals’ with a mental health pharmacist supporting the acute hospital pharmacy team. This has improved acute staff confidence is managing clozapine and enabled effective interventions to improve patient care. -

How to prescribe, adjust and manage medicines in patients with liver disease, considering pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors and adverse drug reactions etc., as well as considering the type of liver disease. We will also discuss particular classes of drugs which often raise concerns in liver disease.

Clinical Theatre 2This interactive workshop is designed for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in general practice. It offers an in-depth exploration of the complexities involved in managing hypertension in patients with cardio-renal-metabolic (CRM) disease, emphasising the unique challenges and therapeutic strategies crucial for effective management. We will examine how cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic conditions contribute to and exacerbate hypertension, complicating its management. Through case studies, we will explore the interplay of these diseases, the rationale behind personalised antihypertensive drug choices, and the development of effective monitoring plans. Additionally, the workshop will cover dietary and lifestyle modifications, the application of technology in patient care, and the enhancement of communication skills to improve hypertension management in this complex patient population.

Room 8A mock exam under timed conditions in preparation for the GPhC Foundation Year assessment Learning Outcomes: to have some timed practice in preparation for Paper 1 of the GPhC exam Overview: This is a chance to sit a mock paper 1- You will complete 20 questions under timed conditions with feedback afterwards. Please bring pens, paper, a calculator as well as a device to access the paper on (it is accessible via your phone) This mock will give you chance to assess your learning needs- find out the areas you are strong in as well as the parts that require more focus I am looking forward to seeing you there!
