Advanced Specialist Pharmacist - Project Lead, Insulin Safety, NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service
Claire Davies is the Diabetes and Endocrinology Specialist Pharmacist for Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. As an active member of the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association Diabetes and Endocrinology Group Claire is keen to advocate the role of pharmacists in improving the care of people living with diabetes as part of the wider multidisciplinary team. Claire's work around pharmacist awareness and confidence relating to insulin titration was presented at the 2020 Diabetes UK Professional Conference and Claire was the joint 2019 UKCPA Patient Safety Award winner for work highlighting the benefit of prescribing pharmacists in facilitating hospital discharges. Day to day Claire works providing pharmaceutical advice and patient facing care for management of people with diabetes in both inpatient and outpatient settings, this includes integrated working with cardiology and renal teams. Claire's other roles encompass quality improvement and safety around diabetes and insulin management and guideline development for the North East. Additionally Claire is a visiting fellow for Newcastle University where she teaches on the MPharm course around diabetes and endocrinology.
