Join Our Team: Exciting Opportunities at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust Pharmacy Department

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is the largest Trust in Southwest Peninsula (1000 beds). We offer most specialist hospital care e.g., major trauma centre, bone marrow transplants, kidney transplants etc. We are part of the Future Hospitals Program which include exciting redevelopments on site e.g. improved Provision Urgent and Emergency Care. We also have a large Clinical Trial Portfolio > 120 new studies a year.

The Pharmacy Department has circa 200 staff with an equal mix of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and other staff. The CQC visited pharmacy during a well led inspection and the Trust was rated Good. We also had a GPHC inspection; we met standards and were rated excellent for governance.

Exciting developments include:

  • New inpatient pharmacy refurbishment and state of the art dispensing robot purchased and automation CD room – installed Feb 2024
  • New Boots outpatient pharmacy
  • Full business case in development new Aseptic Unit planned within next 18 months, a national pathfinder site.
  • Recruit and develop pharmacists from the EEA.
  • Teach and Treat Pilot to develop community Pharmacy prescribers.

As part of a Trust Board approved 5-year workforce plan (2021-26), we have several exciting opportunities:

Advance your practice through our range of specialist Band 8 Pharmacist posts with the opportunity to:

  • Utilise non-medical prescribing skills in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Work as an integral member of the MDT.
  • Work towards advanced practice and credentialing for consultant pharmacist roles.
